At BMEG we have 3 steam engines in function and 3 petrol and electric ones too!
This is a little about our steam engines.

This is a Koppel.
It is only one of two built at BMEG. It was designed by Ken Swan. This loco was built by Mike Lax and can go down the rack railway ( as seen behind the engine) with one coach. The rack is one of the most famous parts of Beamish Museum. People come from all over to view and ride on the rack as it is the only one of two in the world!

This is a Wren.
The Wren is a world renowned engine. This particular model was scaled down by Ken Swan. The mixture of power and simplicity make it ideal and reliable to run. Many model railways may have the Ken Swan design of a Wren and you may have seen it before on a 7 1/4" gauge railway. Our neighbouring group, TSMEE, has two Wrens. The locomotive pictured is named Imp.

This is the Diesel - well it is petrol but still...
It can pull two carriages of passengers (that is all we tested) but it is a great engine. Easy to operate, powerful, and useful. It has a lawn mower engine which is surprisingly powerful.
